I think it’s safe to say 2020 has not been the year any of us expected. Our world is broken and hurting in so many ways. I wish I had the words to say but I’m at a loss. So I will skip to the words that never return void, the Word. “And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”Matthew 22: 37-39 The first commandment here is the greatest, but I think we cannot do the second if we cannot do the first. To love each other well, we need to love Jesus well. In the last few weeks, I have seen more hatred then I could imagine and my heart has broken. In the same breath, I have seen a lot of people come together to love their neighbor. In every season we have to look for the beauty that is to be found. Even in the darkness, we can find hope. My hope regardless of the world around me is found in Jesus. And when I cannot find the good in what I see around me in His strength I do my best to be the good. In one of my favorite shows, Madam Secretary, Henry says “When everything is lacking in
Midwest born and raised you will most likely find me on my kayak in the summer or bundled up by the fireplace with a fresh cup of joe in the winter. I truly believe there is beauty in every season, both in our lives and in the world around us. I can fall short in putting that into practice but I do my best to call it to mind. That’s why I love photography. Because it helps me find that beauty.
